What are the East Side Cal Ripken Boundaries? All of St. Joseph and Elkhart County

What age is my child? Cal Ripken age is based on your child’s age as of April 1 of that year

Do you have T-Ball? Yes, we call it rookie ball.  Your son/daughter must be 4 before April 1

How do I sign up? Click the registration banner on our home page

When does the season start and end?  Games start first of May - Practice start Mid April (Major's and AAA and all of softball tryout on March 16th

Where is the tryout?  Ice Athletic on Fir Road, March 14, 202020

What ages tryout in baseball?

9U - 9:00 AM

10U - 10 AM

11U and 12U - 11AM

What ages tryout in softball?

Minors (usually 9/10 years old) - 1:00 PM

Majors (usually 11/12 years old) - 2:00 PM

Does my child get cut? No, all kids make a team.  The tryout helps us put them in the proper division for their ability and balance the teams to make them competitive.

How often do we play or practice?  Majors/AAA practice 2-4 times a week early in the season.  Once games start you typically play twice a week (weekday and a Saturday) and pracice 1-2 times a week.  AA/Softball Minors is typically 2-3 pratices early in the season and maybe one during the week in season.  A- Ball and 8-U softball usually have 4-7 preseason practices and then maybe just a few during the season.  Rookie ball - 2-4 preseason practices then mostly just games.  Softball 8U and Minors, Baseball AA, A-Ball, and Rookie all play twice a week games... Almost everyone will play every Saturday.

What equipment do I need for baseball?  Your child will need a glove and protective cup.  Baseball pants and cleats are a good idea.  If you buy a bat it must have a USA Baseball stamp on it.

What equipment do I need for softball?  Your child will need a glove and a protective fielder's mask.  Softball pants, helmets, and cleats are a good idea but may not be required, especially in 8U.  Bats are not required, but if you bring your own it should be marked as "Official Softball Bat" or "Official Fastpitch Bat."

Can we use any type of bat?  NO, it must be a USA Baseball stamped bat for baseball, or marked as "Official Softball Bat" or "Official Fastpitch Bat" for softball.

Approved Bats - Cal Ripken Baseball and Babe Ruth Baseball

  1. Cal Ripken Division - All non-wood bats must have the USABat Marking. The Barrel Maximum is 2 5/8". No BBCOR Bats are permitted in the Cal Ripken Division. For the T-Ball Division, bats must be marked with the USABat T-Ball Stamp.
  2. Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 Division – All non-wood bats must have the USABat Marking or marked BBCOR .50. Bat Barrel - 2 5/8".
  3. Babe Ruth Baseball 16-18 Division - All non-wood bats MUST be a BBCOR .50 and no greater than a -3. Barrel - 2 5/8".
